NFC West Notes: 49ers, Rams, Seahawks

49ers

  • 49ers GM John Lynch said of contract talks with free agent RB Carlos Hyde: “We’ve had discussions with Carlos all the way through the season. We haven’t been able to come to an agreement but those discussions are ongoing. I wouldn’t say anything is imminent there.” (Cam Inman)
  • Lynch said they are working toward re-signing LB Brock Coyle but nothing is considered imminent at this time. (Matt Maiocco)
  • According to Lynch, they’ve interviewed all of the top running backs in this year’s draft class including Penn State’s Saquon Barkley. (Matt Maiocco)
  • 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said they’re considering a restructured contract for veteran LT Joe Staley: “It’s something that we are considering. We’ve got to see how this all plays out. … I wish we could overpay everybody. I mean, these guys deserve it in my opinion. What they go through, what they put their bodies through, the pressure that their under. But you also have to do what’s right for the organization. You want to do what’s right for all of your players.” (Sacramento Bee)

Rams

  • Rams GM Les Snead said Thursday that they have the budget designed to get a long-term deal done with TE Aaron Donald and still sign free agents. (Steve Wyche)
  • According to Snead, there’s no need to get Donald extended before March 14 in order to fit their salary cap situation.
  • Snead mentioned that the franchise tag is still an option for them, but they would like to get things done without it. (Myles Simmons)
  • Snead added that re-signing CB Trumaine Johnson is still an option, even after the trade for Marcus Peters.

Seahawks

  • Brady Henderson reports that the Seahawks approached DeShawn Shead about moving to strong safety for the 2018 season with Kam Chancellor‘s football future in jeopardy due to a neck injury.
  • Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said that CB Richard Sherman is progressing well from surgeries on both of his Achilles after recently undergoing a cleanup procedure on the other. (Brady Henderson)
  • Carroll said that everything remains on the table when asked about possibly franchising DT Sheldon Richardson. (Bob Condotta)
  • When asked if the Seahawks have received any trade interest in Sherman, Carroll said they’re listening to everything on everyone. (Doug Kyed)
  • Carroll mentioned that there’s nothing new on DE Cliff Avril and S Kam Chancellor but he is not ruling out the possibility they could play in 2018. (Bob Condotta)
  • Carroll said OT George Fant is shooting for a return by training camp, but they won’t rush him back. (John Boyle)
