NFL Notes: Anquan Boldin, Bills, Broncos & Chiefs

Anquan Boldin

  • Albert Breer spoke with a pro scouting director about free agent WR Anquan Boldin and why he’s still available. The scouting direction summed it up by saying: “He’s old and can’t run.
  • Breer adds that NFL teams still want to get their younger players some more reps this spring.

Bills

Bills WR Sammy Watkins admitted Wednesday that “nobody knows” what his timetable will be for a return from surgery he underwent to repair stress fractures in his left foot.

“This is an injury where you have to be really careful,” Watkins said, via WKBW Buffalo“The only thing that I can do is listen to the staff and take it slow, and just, really protect myself, and they’re going to protect me also. We’re just going to take the course with the injury. Nobody knows what timetable, what or when I’ll be back.”

Broncos

Broncos executive VP John Elway admitted there is some “concern” with OLB DeMarcus Ware‘s lingering back issues.

“Yeah, there’s always a concern with that,” said Elway, per Nicki Jhabvala. “Especially with the back, because you never really know. And he’s such an integral part of it and his leadership qualities, so obviously we’re hopeful he can get that going. We’re going to manage him and we knew that coming into this year, to take care of him. Yeah, there’s a little bit of concern there.

Chiefs

  • While Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles was present for Wednesday’s practice, HC Andy Reid said that Charles isn’t expected to participate in practice until training camp begins in July, at the earliest. (Terez A. Paylor)
