NFL Notes: Giants, Jaguars, Raiders, Saints, & Titans



Giants HC Tom Coughlin announced that second-round S Landon Collins has an MCL sprain and S Mykkele Thompson is out for the season with an Achilles injury.

  • According to Jordan Rannan of, it would not be surprising to see the Giants bring in some cornerback help over the next few days.


  • Ryan O’Halloran of Florida Times-Union reports that S Johnathan Cyprien will miss the remainder of the preseason after breaking his right hand against the Steelers on Friday.
  • According to O’Halloran, DE Chris Clemons will return on Monday from an undisclosed injury.
  • S James Sample is expected to return from the PUP list on Monday, after recovering from a broken arm.


San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor said the city is willing to host the Raiders if the team needs a temporary home, should they decide to move forward with the Carson, Calif. stadium plans.

Sources reveal that Raiders owner Mark Davis is “beyond frustrated” with the City of Oakland’s efforts to retain the franchise.


  • Adam Schefter reports that Saints RB C.J. Spiller underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on Friday, but is expected to be back for Week 1.


Titans HC Ken Whisenhunt confirmed that fifth-round RB David Cobb will get snaps with the first-team offense at some point this preseason based on his play from Friday.

“Based on what you saw Friday night, I certainly think Cobb deserves that, we’ll work him in,” Whisenhunt said, via ESPN.comThe young man had to get in shape first. That’s been a process just because of the [offseason] quad injury.

“But he did a really nice job and we’ll move him up in the rotation as the weeks progress.”
