Le’Veon Bell
- Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Steelers and RB Le’Veon Bell both made closing pushes on deadline day last Tuesday to iron out an agreement that would have paved the way for him to return to the team.
- According to Schefter, the Steelers were told that if they were willing to not use their franchise or transition tag on Bell after this season, he would consider reporting to the team. However, Pittsburgh declined to do so, given that they felt the tag was too important.
- Schefter confirms prior reports that this sets up a battle between the NFL’s Management Council and the NFLPA about how much the transition tag will cost the Steelers next year. The management council believes the tag could come out to around $9.5 million while the NFLPA maintains that it has to be $14.54 million, which is 120 percent of Bell’s salary from the last franchise tag.
- The Steelers can carry over the $14.54 million they would have paid Bell under the franchise tag.
Hot Seat
- Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reported on Sunday’s pregame show that John Harbaugh, Mike McCarthy, Todd Bowles, Dirk Koetter and Jason Garrett are all on the hot seat at this point in the year.
- Regarding Harbaugh and McCarthy, Glazer says they would be two of the hottest head-coaching candidates if available this January.
HC Candidates
- As for coordinator candidates teams could consider, Jay Glazer says Vikings OC John DeFilippo is atop the list that could also include Seahawks OC Brian Schottenheimer, Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy and Titans OC Matt LaFleur.
