NFL Notes: Nick Mangold, May 16 Rule, Bills, Buccaneers

Nick Mangold

Free agent C Nick Mangold mentioned during an appearance on SNY’s “Jet Stream” podcast that he isn’t sure if he’ll return to the NFL.

Maybe there’s more to (my career), maybe there isn’t,” Mangold said, per Rich Cimini.

According to Mangold, his foot injury still hasn’t healed and he didn’t want to “steal checks” this season y signing with a team before he’s healthy.

May 16 Rule

  • Tom Pelissero reports that the NFL and the American Football Coaches Association are working toward a deal to change the May 16 Rule, which is a policy that prevents rookies from participating in football activities if their schools are still in session.

Bills

  • According to Howard Balzer, the Bills worked out RB Jalen Simmons, RB Brandon Wilds and S Shamarko Thomas on Tuesday.
  • Of this group, Buffalo signed Thomas to a contract. (NFLTR)

Buccaneers

Buccaneers RB Doug Martin said he is unsure how many snaps he will receive in Week 5, but added that he is ready to contribute in whatever way he can.

“I’m gonna go out there and just do the best that I can do, be as ready as I can be, just play for these guys,” Martin said, via Jenna Laine of ESPN. “I’m not sure [how many snaps]. I’m just going to go out there and play to the best of my ability. Whatever that is, it’s Coach [Dirk Koetter’s] decision, it’s what he decides to do. I’m for it.
