NFL Notes: Robert Griffin III, Buccaneers, Colts, Steelers

Robert Griffin III

  • Former Redskins and Browns QB Robert Griffin III mentioned during an appearance on ESPN’s “NFL Live” (per Adam Schefter) Tuesday that he worked out for Chargers this summer and nearly agreed to play for the Ravens.
  • According to RGIII, he had “interesting offers” from other teams as well.
  • We have him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.

Buccaneers

Buccaneers CB Brent Grimes told reporters that he plans to wait until after the season before deciding whether he’ll return for the 2018 season.

“I haven’t thought about it. When the season’s over, I will,” said Grimes, via Jenna Laine of ESPN.

“I’m playing right now,” Grimes said. “I’m thinking about the Falcons and then who we’ve got after that — the Panthers, I think, I’ll be thinking about them. And then [the Saints]. When it’s over, I’ll be thinking about stuff like that.

Colts

  • Colts HC Chuck Pagano announced Tuesday that he expects WR Donte Moncrief (ankle) to be back with the team for Week 16’s game. (George Bremer)
  • Mike Wells of ESPN mentions that the two field goal attempts missed by Colts K Adam Vinatieri during Sunday’s game against the Bills could end up costing him a $500,000 bonus.
  • Vinatieri’s missed field goals can be attributed in part to blizzard conditions. However, they dropped his percent down to 88 percent on the season, which means he’ll need to convert at least 5-of-5 field goal attempts over the next three games to get back above the 90-percent threshold.

Steelers

  • Steelers HC Mike Tomlin told reporters on Tuesday that veteran CB Joe Haden (broken leg) will return to practice this week. (Ed Bouchette)
  • Tomlin added that they will see what Haden can do before determining whether he can play in Sunday’s game against the Patriots.
