Now that the Detroit Lions will not be bring back RB Kevin Smith as their No. 2 running back, there’s a chance that they may want to add some additional help at the position. ESPN’s Kevin Seifert discussed the idea during his most recent mailbag.
Seifert mentions that the adding Clinton Portis as the teams No. 2 running back would no doubt be an upgrade because of his blocking and receiving ability. Seifert writes that the biggestย obstacle to over come would be whether or not Portis is ready to accept a diminished role.
Portis is in a position where he can either hold out for the most playing which is likely to be with a poor team or he can take on a complimentary role for another team. It would be really surprising to see anyone commit to him as their featured back so he’s going to have to decide what matters most to him.
