NFL Rumors: Kirk Cousins, Bills, Cardinals, Jets, Texans

Kirk Cousins

  • Jason La Canfora says sources continue to maintain that the Redskins will franchise QB Kirk Cousins and are prepared to discuss a long-term extension with him this offseason.
  • According to La Canfora, the 49ers are “very high” on Cousins, which isn’t surprising considering that they’re prepared to hire Kyle Shanahan as their next head coach. However, La Canfora says it’s going to take a “huge haul of picks” to pry Cousins away from the Redskins.
  • The Bears have reportedly done “significant work” on Cousins too but he’s not sure things will line up with Chicago, given that Washington is expected to franchise Cousins.

Bills

  • According to Jason La Canfora, the Bills haven’t given up hope of retaining QB Tyrod Taylor on a less contract. However, La Canfora admits that this could be “wishful thinking” on their part.
  • League sources have told La Canfora that the Bills have “significant interest” in Cowboys QB Tony Romo, even though they realize it could be a tough sell.

Cardinals

  • Jason La Canfora reports that if Cardinals QB Carson Palmer retires, sources have told him that the Cardinals could be an option for Tony Romo.
  • Interestingly enough, La Canfora mentions that the Cardinals “very high” on Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson and could be prepared to trade up to get him.
  • If the Cardinals don’t make a move for Watson, La Canfora mentions that Tyrod Taylor is also a “very appealing” option for Arizona and would be a great fit in Bruce Arians‘ scheme.

Jets

  • Jason La Canfora is the latest to report that the Jets are “highly intrigued” by North Carolina quarterback Mitch Trubisky.

Texans

  • According to Jason La Canfora, the Texans plan to give Tom Savageevery opportunity” to win the starting job this summer, even though they’re stuck with Brock Osweiler‘s salary for another year.
