According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the expectation is that Eagles QB Nick Foles will become an unrestricted free agent after the season.
During this past offseason, the Eagles and Foles agreed to a restructured contract that includes a $20 million option for Philadelphia to pick up next year, which is out of the question given that Carson Wentz will be their starter in 2019.
Foles has the ability to buy back the option by paying $2 million and the Eagles could use their franchise tag on him, which isn’t going to happen.
Wentz is dealing with a stress fracture in his back and Rapoport mentions that the Eagles will likely hold him out for the remainder of the season.
With this in mind, Foles will earn $250,000 per start for a total of $750,000 over the final three games. He’d make another $250,000 per game if they win.
Foles’ base salary this season is $4 million and he can earn up to at least another $3.5 million from incentives and a $2 million signing bonus he received, which should allow him to buy his way into free agency.
Foles, 29, is a former third-round pick of the Eagles back in 2012.ย Philadelphia traded Foles to the Rams back in 2015 in aย deal for QB Sam Bradfordย and he later signed an extension with the Rams.
Unfortunately, Foles lasted just over a year with the Rams before he was released last summer and later signed by the Chiefs. The Eagles signed Foles to a two-year, $11 million contract that includes $7 million guaranteed this past March.
Foles was set to make a base salary of $4 million in 2018 when he agreed to a restructured contract this offseason.
In 2018, Folesย has appeared in two games and thrown for 451 yards while completing 65.9 percent of his passes to go along with one touchdownย and one interception.
