After speaking with multiple agents at the Combine, Tom Silverstein and Jim Owczarski of PackersNews.com are reporting that the Packers are exploring what it would take to possibly sign Browns free agent LB Joe Schobert.
However, the report mentions that this doesn’t necessarily mean the Packers are interested in re-signing free agent LB Blake Martinez, but they are essentially covering their bases in the lead up to free agency.
Martinez is reportedly seeking at least $10 million per year and Schobert could be looking for even more. The Packers would prefer to pay something more in the range of $8 million per year, dependent upon the structure of the contract.
Schobert, 26, was a fourth-round pick by the Browns out of Wisconsin back in 2016. He just finished out his four-year, $2.97 million rookie contract that included a $633,956 signing bonus.
Schobert is now in line to test the open market as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career.
In 2019, Schobert appeared in all 16 games for the Browns and recorded 133 tackles, two sacks, and four interceptions, 13 pass defenses and forced two fumbles.
We have him included in our Top 100 – 2020 Free Agents list.
