Packers Sign LB Derrick Mathews To Practice Squad

The Green Bay Packers officially signed LB Derrick Mathews to their practice squad on Tuesday.

The Packers’ practice squad now consists of:

  1. TE Devon Cajuste
  2. OLB Reggie Gilbert
  3. G Lucas Patrick
  4. WR Herb Waters
  5. DT Brian Price
  6. WR Dez Stewart
  7. C Jacob Flores
  8. RB Brandon Burks
  9. DB Jermaine Whitehead
  10. LB Derrick Mathews

The Packers had to add some depth at linebacker with injuries they’re currently dealing with. However, this could be a sign that they will move Clay Matthews back to inside linebacker, seeing as they didn’t add anyone else to their active roster.

Mathews, 24, wound up signing on with the Redskins as an undrafted free agent out of Houston back in November of last year. He was brought back on a future/reserve contract, but was unfortunately cut loose just a few days after this year’s NFL draft.

The Packers later signed Mathews to a contract. However, he was among their early roster cuts towards the end of the preseason.

During his four-year college career, Mathews recorded 400 tackles, 43 tackles for a loss, 16 sacks, six forced fumbles, two recoveries, nine interceptions with three of them being returned for touchdowns and 14 pass defenses.
