Despite signing Mike Tolbert earlier this morning,ย the Charlotte Observer reports thatย “multiple team sources” have informed then that the Panthers are “unlikely” to trade RBย Jonathan Stewart.
Last night there were rumors circulating that the Panthers could deal Stewart if they signed Tolbert to a contract. ESPN’sย Pat Yasinskasย still believes that a deal could happen despite the Observers’ report.
Yasinskas mentions thatย Tolbert was signed to be the teams’ “No. 2 running back” and believes that either DeAngelo Williams or Stewart could be shopped around in the coming weeks.ย Yasinskas specifically mentions the Broncos as one team that could have interest in DeAngelo Williams.
Trading will Williams will be difficult because of his contract but not impossible, especially if someone like John Fox shows interest in acquiring him.

ESPN’s Pat Yasinskasย writes that Mike Tolbert‘s scheduled visit with the Panthers could lead the team to consider moving eitherย Jonathan Stewart orย DeAngelo Williams.
Yasinskasย specifically mentions thatย Stewart makes the most sense considering thatย Williams is under contract for aย ridiculousย sum ofย money which something that prospective teams wouldn’t be willing to take on.
This is justย speculationย at this time but adding Tolbert would definitely impact the amount of carrier going around next season in Carolina should they chose to keep all three of them. It’s worth noting that Pro Football Focus rated Stewart as one of the more productive backs in the league last year (#11) while Williams comes in at #40 overall. Oh, and Tolbert was rated #27.
