Panthers Waive WR Jason Avant

Update:

The Panthers have announced that they have released WR Jason Avant and signed WR De’Andre Presley from their practice squad.

———- The Carolina Panthers have placed veteran WR Jason Avant on waivers Tuesday, according to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports. Avant’s agent, Doug Hendrickson, seemed to indicate earlier in the day that a move was coming involving his client.

This move leaves Kelvin Benjamin, Jerricho Cotchery, and Philly Brown as the team’s top-three receivers.

HC Ron Rivera explained that they are looking to create more opportunities for Brown and Brenton Bersin moving forward.

Avant, 31, spent eight years with the Eagles before he signed one-year, $1.05 million contract with the Panthers back in March as they tried to around out their receiving corps.

This season, Avant has appeared in 11 games and recorded 21 receptions for 201 yards receiving and a touchdown.

Garafolo mentions that he could see the Chiefs bringing Avant in given their need at receiver and the fact that Andy Reid spent a number of years working with him in Philadelphia.
