Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News confirms that the Patriots had interest in trading for WR Sterling Shepard, who just signed a four-year extension with the Giants Wednesday.
Mike Reiss of ESPN first mentioned Shepard as a possible trade option for the Patriots last month.
Leonard mentions that the Patriots had also shown interest in Odell Beckham Jr. last year upon learning the Giants would listen to offers.
New England could use some help at receiver, so it’s a big surprise that they at least checked on Shepard.
Shepard walked away with a new four-year, $41 million extension that includes $21.3 million guaranteed from the Giants.
Shepard, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Giants back in 2016. He was entering the final year of his four-year, $5.944 million contract.
In 2018, Shepard appeared in all 16 games for the Giants and caught 66 passes for 872 yards receiving and four touchdowns.
