Patriots Promote DL Joe Vellano & Waive TE Steve Maneri

The New England Patriots announced Saturday that they signed DL Joe Vellano off of their practice squad and waived TE Steve Maneri to make room for him.

The Patriots signed Vellano as an undrafted free agent out of Maryland back in 2013. Last year, Vellano appeared in all 16 games and recorded 54 tackles, two sacks, a fumble recovery and a pass defense for the Patriots’ defense.

Vellano was placed on waivers back in October before he was later added to the team’s practice squad. In 2014, Vellano has totaled six tackles and a sack over the course of 5 games.

Maneri, 26, originally signed on with the Texans as an undrafted free agent back in 2010, but he was unable to make the team’s final 53-man roster and was later claimed by the Patriots.

Since then, he’s played for the Chiefs, Bears and Buccaneers.
