The New England Patriots officially released DL John Hughes on Saturdayย and signed TE Greg Scruggs to a contract.
Hughes, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Browns back in 2012. He was in the second year of his five-year, $15.6 million contract and set to make a bases salary of $2.4 million for the 2016 season when the Browns cut him loose last week in a move that freed up $2.2 million in available cap space.
The Patriots just signed Hughes to a contract earlier in the week.
This season, Hughes has appeared in one game for the Browns, but has yet to record a single a tackle.
