Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Patriots have waived/injured RB Tyler Gaffney on Tuesday.

  • According to Rapoport, the Patriots are hoping that he clears waivers and can be placed on their injured reserve list.

Gaffney, 24, is in the second-year of his four-year, $2,316,600 rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $435,000 for the 2015 season.

The Patriots wound up claiming him off of waivers from the Panthers last year after Carolina cut him loose with the intention of getting him through waivers.

At Stanford, Gaffney ran for 2,500 yards on 486 carries (5.1 YPC) and scored a total of 37 touchdowns over the course of four years.
