Vincent Bonsignore confirms that Mariota is being placed on injured reserve.

The Raiders signed QB DeShone Kizer to their practice squad earlier in the day and have Nathan Peterman as the backup to Derek Carr if need be.

It’s worth mentioning that the NFL changed the rules regarding injured reserve for the 2020 season and players can return from the list in just three weeks.

Mariota, 26, is a former No. 2 overall pick of the Titans back in 2015.  He signed a four-year, $24.214 million rookie contract that’s fully guaranteed.

The Titans picked up Mariota’s fifth-year option back in April worth $20.922 million for the 2019 season. He ultimately agreed to a two-year contract with the Raiders this past March worth $17.6 million.

In 2019, Mariota appeared in seven games for the Titans and completed 59.4 percent of passes for 1,203 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for 129 yards. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 27 quarterback out of 37 qualifying players.
