Rams Promote TE Justice Cunningham, Sign RB Trey Watts To Practice Squad

The St. Louis Rams officially promoted TE Justice Cunningham to their active roster from their practice squad on Thursday, according to the NFL transactions release.

  • The Rams also signed RB Trey Watts to their practice squad.

This move could have something to do with TE Lance Kendricks undergoing thumb surgery.

Cunningham, 24, is a former seventh-round pick of the Colts back in 2013. He spent less than a year in Indianapolis before he later signed on to the Rams’ practice squad.

St. Louis elected to bring him back on a future/reserve before they eventually add him to their practice squad at the start of the regular season.

During his rookie season, Cunningham appeared in one game and caught a single pass for four yards receiving.

Watts, 24, signed on with the Rams as an undrafted free agent out of Tulsa back in May of last year. St. Louis elected to waive Watts earlier in the week.

Last year, Watts appeared in 14 games for the Rams and ran for 30 yards on seven carries (4.3 YPC) to go along with three receptions for 18 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
