Ravens & John Harbaugh Have Yet To Discuss Extension, Bucs & Dolphins Mulling Trade?

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the Ravens have yet to have any dialogue with HC John Harbaugh regarding a contract extension, despite announcing a few weeks ago that they planned to do so.

La Canfora says there’s still no guarantee Harbaugh returns to Baltimore for the 2019 season, which happens to be the final year of his current deal.

There has been some buzz in recent weeks about teams having trade interest in Harbaugh and La Canfora specifically mentions that the Buccaneers and Dolphins are among the teams mulling a potential trade for him if the Ravens’ season were to end.

In fact, La Canfora writes that there’s a “strong sentiment around the league that several teams are slow-playing their head-coaching searches, waiting to see if Harbaugh’s future comes to a head early next week.”

La Canfora adds that other NFL teams would likely be willing to give a coach of Harbaugh’s stature significant sway over personnel decisions and have him report directly to ownership, as opposed to a GM.

If Harbaugh is really willing to play out the final year of his contract, he could maintain leverage with the Ravens when it comes to negotiating a salary.

Harbaugh, 56, began his NFL coaching career with the Eagles in 1998 as their special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach. He spent 10 years in Philadelphia before he was hired as the Ravens’ head coach in 2008.

During his nine years with the team, Harbaugh has led them to a record of 103-72 (58.9 percent), which includes six playoff appearances and one Super Bowl championship in 2012.

We’ll have more regarding Harbaugh as the news is available.
