Redskins CB Quinton Dunbar Requests Trade Or Release

Update:

Quinton Dunbar has confirmed that he has requested to be traded or released by the Redskins.

“I don’t know them and they don’t know me. It is what it is,” Dunbar told JP Finlay.

John Keim of ESPN reports that Redskins CB Quinton Dunbar has requested to be traded or released.

According to Keim, Dunbar spoke with a member of the Redskins’ administration Monday about the situation.

Keim says the Redskins and Dubar had been in talks with the previous regime about an extension but he had not had any contact with the team since they hired HC Ron Rivera.

Earlier in the day, JP Finlay of NBC Washington reported that Dunbar does not intend to take part in the team’s voluntary offseason workouts.

Finlay explained that Durbar is slated to make a below-market salary for a starting NFL cornerback and vastly lower than the $15 million Washington paid to Josh Norman, who was benched for most of the second half of the season.

Dunbar, 27, originally signed on with the Redskins as an undrafted free agent out of Florida back in 2015. He was waived at the start of the 2015 season and was later added to the Redskins’ practice squad before being promoted a few weeks later.

Washingon re-signed Dunbar to a three-year, $10.5 million extension through the 2020 season in January of last year. He’s set to make a base salary of $3.25 million next season.

In 2019, Dunbar appeared in 11 games and recorded 37 total tackles, one tackle for loss, four interceptions and eight pass defenses. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 2 overall cornerback out of 113 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Dunbar as the news is available.
