Albert Breer reports that the Redskins have exercisedย OLB Ryan Kerrigan‘s fifth-year option.
Washington used the No. 16 overall pick onย Kerrigan back in 2011. His fifth-year option willย run the Redskinsย $7.038 million for the 2015, but this figure is only guaranteed for injury and won’tย prevent them from negotiating a long-term contract.ย
Kerrigan, 25, hasn’t missed a single game since entering the NFL. He did, however, undergo an arthroscopic knee surgery back in January, but recent reports mentioned that his knee has recovered well and it shouldn’t be an option moving forward.
Last year, Kerrigan totaled 66 tackles, 8.5 sacks and four forced fumbles for the Washington defense.
Pro Football Focusย has him rated as the No. 24 outside linebacker in a 3-4 defensive scheme last season.
