Redskins Waive DE Marcus Smith & RB Kapri Bibbs, Promote Two

The Washington Redskins officially waived DE Marcus Smith and RB Kapri Bibbs on Saturday and promoted TE Matt Flanagan and DB Joshua Holsey to their active roster.

  • The Redskins also signed LS Andrew East to a contract and placed LS Nick Sundberg on injured reserve.

Smith, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Eagles back in 2014. The Eagles declined to pick up his fifth-year option last year and eventually cut him loose during the summer.

Smith signed a one-year contract with the Seahawks soon after and finished out the year in Seattle. He re-signed with the Seahawks this past offseason to a one-year contract worth up to $2.7 million, but was released during the preseason.

The Redskins signed Smith to a contract a few weeks ago.

In 2017, Smith appeared in 14 games for the Seahawks and recorded 15 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and a pass defense.

Bibbs, 25, originally signed on with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of Colorado State back in 2014. He was on and off of the Broncos’ practice squad before returning to Denver on a one-year, exclusive rights deal for the 2016 season.

The 49ers traded Bibbs and a 2017 fifth-round pick to the Broncos in return for a 2018 fourth-round selection, but San Fransisco elected to cut him loose coming out of the preseason.

Bibbs caught on with the Redskins a few months later and has been on and off of their active roster ever since.

In 2018, Bibbs has appeared in 10 games for the Redskins and rushed for 101 yards on 20 carries (5.1 YPC) to go along with 13 receptions for 102 yards receiving and four touchdowns.
