Report: Cardinals Out On Andy Reid

Darren Urban of azcentral.com reports that Andy Reid is “no longer a candidate to be the Cardinals next coach.

ESPN reports that the Cardinals have cancelled their private jet that was supposed to fly Reid to Arizona for their upcoming interview. The report adds that the Chiefs and Reid could have a contract in place “by the end of the day.

Packers director of operations John Dorsey is believed to be one of the favorites to be the Chiefs next GM. Reid is apparently not insisting that the Chiefs bring in former Browns GM Tom Heckert and it’s also “highly unlikely” that Scott Pioli retains his job if Reid is in fact hired.

Ian Rapoport reports that Andy Reid has started canceling his interviews with the Cardinals and Chargers and his sources have informed him that the Chiefs are “getting close ” to coming to an agreement.

Jason La Canfora reports that a deal between the Kansas City Chiefs and Andy Reid is “imminent” and will be “finalized likely by the end of the day.

Reuben Frank of CSNPhilly.com reports that sources have informed him that Andy Reid still intends to meet with the San Diego Chargers, despite the previous report that indicated that Reid was on the verge of signing with the Chiefs.

Frank’s source disputed ESPN’s report, but added that Reid is “clearly at the top of the Chiefs’ list.” Geoff Mosher’s source added that Chiefs have yet to make Reid a a formal offer.

Once again, it appears as though information is being leaked to media outlets in the hopes of gaining leverage in negotiations. Reid is obviously looking to maximize his current position and ensure that he’s well taken care of.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen are reporting that the Chiefs and Andy Reid are on the “verge” of reaching an agreement for Reid to become Kansas City’s next head coach.

According to Schefter’s source, “the major issues have been discussed and agreed upon.” The talks between the two sides reportedly progressed “to the point where no hangups are expected.

An assistant coach “aligned” with Reid also mentioned that Reid “is going to Kansas City, not Arizona.”

If Reid does in fact take the job, it’s a pretty clear indication that Scott Pioli will be replaced as the team’s general manager. Ian Rapoport tweets that Reid would likely bring former Browns GM Tom Heckert with him to Kansas City.

Reid reportedly has interviews setup with the Cardinals and Chargers, so it’s important to consider that Reid and his agent could be pushing KC to come to an agreement before he meets with a division rival.
