Jets Sign Veteran DE Jason Babin

Update:

The Jets have announced the signing of DE Jason Babin

————

Kimberly Jones of the NFL Network reports that the Jets have reached an agreement with DE Jason Babin on a two-year contract.

  • Jones reported earlier in the day that Babin had visited with the Jets on Monday.

The Jaguars cut Babin loose back in June, despite the fact that he voided his contract and later re-signed with the team earlier in the offseason.

Babin should compete with Antwan Barnes, Garrett McIntyre, and Jermaine Cunningham for playing time in training camp.

ESPN’s Adam Caplan expects Babin to be used as a nickel pass rusher this season.

Babin, 34, recorded 40 tackles, 7.5 sacks and three forced fumbles for the Jaguars defense. According to Pro Football Focus, Babin graded out as the No. 8 defensive end in a 4-3 system in terms of pass-rushing ability.

We had Babin listed as the No. 5 player in our Best Available Free Agents list.
