Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt downplayed the previous report that the Cardinals were leaning towards John Skelton as their starting quarterback.
“Kevin’s going to start this week like we said, and we’ll let it play itself out,” said Whisenhunt, via Darren Urbanย of ArizonaCardinals.com. “When we feel like we have a player that’s going to give us the best chance to win we’ll move in that direction … I haven’t gotten into thinking about favorites and longshots.”
Skelton still looks like better player, but that’sย admittedly after just one preseason game. Kolb starts again this week, so we’ll have to see if he can show some improvement.

ESPN’sย Adam Schefterย reports thatย John Skelton is “now considered the favorite” to win the Arizona Cardinals starting quarterback job.
Kevin Kolb is still scheduled to start this Friday’s game against the Raiders, but has so far looked much worse in both training camp and the preseason. He’ll definitely need a great showing this week to even keep things close, as Skelton has actually pretty decent in recent weeks.
Neither player is a difference-maker on their own, but Skelton was able to pull out some wins last season and he’s shown the ability to move the ball through the air, or at least get it to Larry Fitzgerald.
