Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean is reporting that the Tennessee Titans are trading LB Akeem Ayers to the New England Patriots.

  • Jason La Canfora reports that the Patriots are sending a sixth-round pick to the Titans in return for Ayers and a seventh-round pick.
  • Wyatt adds that only thing that would prevent is a failed physical.
  • Ayers’ brother, Kevin, confirmed that Akeem is now on the Patriots.

Ayers, 25, is a former second-round pick of the Titans and is in the final year of his rookie contract that is worth a total value of $4.927 million.

Brian McIntyre points out that Ayers is due $615,762 over the final 10 weeks of the season before becoming an unrestricted free agent next year.

There was talk during the offseason that Ayers could have a hard time securing playing time this year. So far, Ayers has been limited to playing just 10 snaps this season over the course two games.

New England could probably use some extra depth at linebacker, especially after they lost Jerod Mayo for the season. This is a low-risk all around for the Patriots, so we’ll have to see if Ayers is able to turn things around in a new setting over the next few months.
