Rex Grossman Turns Down The Browns Regarding Backup Job, Tyler Thigpen Could Be An Option

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the Cleveland Browns reached out to veteran QB Rex Grossman on Monday about joining the team for the Week 17 matchup.

However, the two sides reportedly could not work out the logistics as Grossman is hosting his family for Christmas.

The Browns will give undrafted rookie QB Connor Shaw the first-team reps during this week’s practice, but the could use another quarterback in the event that Brian Hoyer is not available due to his shoulder injury.

Head coach Mike Pettine announced today that rookie Johnny Manziel is done for the year with a hamstring injury.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports mentions that it sounds like Hoyer could be good enough to serve as an “emergency back-up,” but if they wanted to add another quarterback, Tyler Thigpen could be an option.

We’ll have more updates throughout the week regarding the Browns possibly signing a quarterback.
