Jets WR Robby Anderson said during an appearance on ESPN’s “NFL โชLive” Tuesday that there’s mutual interest in him returning to New York.
“l think they definitely want me back,” Anderson said, per Rich Cimini. “I truly do want to be back with the Jets. I love Sam (Darnold). I love my teammates, Jamal (Adams) and all those guys. I feel like there’s unfinished business there that I’ve been trying to get done since I got there. I would hope to finish out the mission, all in all, but it’s a business.”
Last week, Jeremy Fowler reported that the Jets were making an effort to re-sign Anderson before the start of free agency.
Anderson is expected to be one of, if not the top, wide receivers on the market this year. He said earlier this offseason the Jets had expressed an interest in bringing him back, though he was planning to test free agency.
โI want to be where I feel like the best situation for me to be great is, to be the person I can be outside of football,โ Anderson said.
When asked if thatโs the Jets, Anderson said: โI would hope so. Just got to see what comes available, whatโs out there.โ
Anderson had come up as a potential trade candidate the past two seasons, but the Jets ultimately elected to hold on to him. Now he should be in line to secure a sizable contract worth at least $11 million per season.
Anderson, 26, signed on with the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Temple back in 2016. He played out his three-year rookie contract and re-signed to a one-year, $3.095 million deal as a restricted free agent.
Anderson is in line to be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career in 2020.
In 2019, Anderson appeared in 16 games and recorded 52 receptions for 779 yards receiving (15 YPC) and five touchdowns.
We have him included in our Top 100 – 2020 Free Agents list.
