Saints Release G Larry Warford

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Saints are releasing veteran G Larry Warford on Friday.

Indications were that Warford was unlikely to be back with the Saints in 2020, considering that he’s coming off of a disappointing 2019 season and New Orleans used a first-round pick on Cesar Ruiz.

Warford, 28, is a former third-round pick of the Lions back in 2013. He played out his rookie contract with Detroit before signing a four-year, $34 million deal that included $17 million guaranteed back in 2017.

Warford was owed a $7,650,000 base salary for the 2019 season and had already been paid a $750,000 signing bonus earlier this offseason.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Warford will free up $7.75 million of available cap space while creating $5,125,000 in dead money.

In 2019, Warford appeared in 15 games for the Saints, making 15 starts for them at right guard. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 8 guard out of 81 qualifying players.
