The New Orleans Saints have agreed to terms with veteran S Kurt Colemanย on a three-year contract Friday night, according to Nick Underhill.
- Ian Rapoport reports that Coleman receives a three-year contract worth up to $18 million. The deal pays him $6.5 million in 2018.
- According to Katherine Terrell, the Bengals also offered Coleman a three-year contract and were optimistic about getting a deal done. However, Coleman ultimately chose the Saints over the Bengals.
Coleman with both the Saints and Bengals while in Indianapolis at the Combine this week, so the expectation was a deal was going to get done at some point in the near future.
It’s worth mentioning that signing Coleman to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.
Coleman, 29, is a former seventh-round pick of the Eagles back in 2010. He spent four years with the Eagles before joining the Chiefs for the 2014 season.
The Panthers signed him to a contract a year later and eventually signed him to a four-year, $18.2 million contract that included $7 million guaranteed in 2016.ย Coleman was set to make base salaries of $3.5 million and $3.75 million over the final two years of the agreement when the Panthers recently cut him loose.
In 2017, Coleman appeared in 12 games for the Panthers and recorded 76 tackles, a fumble recovery and three pass defenses.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 76 safety out of 87 qualifying players.
