Dianna Russini and Ed Werder of ESPN are reporting that the Saints are starting QB Drew Brees for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals.
Earlier in the week, Brees told reporters that he was planning to return in Week 8, depending on things go in practice this week.
“Thatโs the plan, weโll see,” Brees said, per Sean Fazende.
Brees underwent thumb surgery after he suffered the injury during Week 2’s game against the Rams.
Teddy Bridgewater did a great job of filling in Brees while he was working his way back from injury.
Brees, 40, is a former second-round pick of the Chargers back in 2001. After five years with the Chargers, Brees signed on with the Saints as a free agent in 2006.
Brees has spent the past 12 seasons in New Orleans and is entering the final year of his two-year, $50 million contract that includes $27 million guaranteed.
Before he was injured, Brees had appeared in one game and completed 74.4 percent of his passes for 370 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
