The Saints officially waived DE Mitchell Loewen and RB Matthew Dayes on Tuesday per the NFL’s official transaction report.
Loewen, 26, signed on with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of back in 2016. He has missed extensive time due to injury and been limited to appearing in just three games over his first three years in the NFL.
The Saints elected to cut Loewen loose last December and he was later claimed by the Lions. The Lions re-signed Loewen for the 2019 season but elected to release him during final roster cuts. Loewen rejoined the Saints on the practice squad.
Loewen was just promoted to the active roster by the Saints ahead of Monday night’s game against the Texans. He recorded two tackles in the game.
