The New Orleans Saints officially waived DB Rickey Jefferson with an injury designation on Tuesday.
Should Jefferson clear waivers tomorrow, he would revert to the Saints’ injured serve list.
Jefferson reportedly suffered a torn ACL during last week’s preseason game, so this move was expected.
Jefferson, 23, wound up signing a three-year, $1.66 million contract with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Pittsburgh back in May. He was set to make base salaries of $465,000 and $555,000 over the first two years of the contract when the Raiders cut him loose coming out of the preseason.
The Saints signed Jefferson to a futures contract this past January only to cut him loose a few weeks after this year’s draft. New Orleans brought him back a few weeks ago.
During his four-year college career at LSU, Jefferson recorded 88 tackles, one sack, four interceptions, and eight pass defenses over the course of 30 games.
