Seahawks Waive LB Austin Calitro, Sign FB Nick Bellore

According to Tom Pelissero, the Seahawks cut LB Austin Calitro on Monday.

The team announced it signed FB Nick Bellore in a corresponding move to take Calitro’s place.

Calitro was a key backup with multiple starts the past few seasons, so this move comes as a bit of a surprise.

Calitro, 25, wound up signing on with the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Villanova in 2017. Unfortunately, he lasted just a few weeks in New York before he was placed on waivers.

Calitro later signed on with the 49ers but wound up being among their final roster cuts coming out of the preseason. After a brief stint with the Seahawks, Calitro joined the Browns’ practice squad and returned to Cleveland on a futures deal in 2018.

After the Browns elected to waive him in May, Calitro returned to the Seahawks for the 2018 season. He re-signed in Seattle this offseason as an exclusive rights free agent.

In 2018, Calitro appeared in all 16 games for the Seahawks, recording 45 total tackles, half a sack and one pass defense.
