The Seattle Seahawks announced Thursday that they’ve placed RBย Marshawn Lynchย on the reserve/retired list.
Many have wondered why Lynch hasn’t officially retired from the NFL, despite announcing several months ago that he wasย calling it a career. However, Seahawks GM John Schneider confirmed that they were going to make this move before June 1.
Byย placing Lynchย on the reserve/retired list, the Seahawks will clear $6.5 million in cap room and create $5 million in dead money.
Lynch, 29, has two years remaining on hisย three-year, $31 million contractย that includedย $12 million guaranteed. He would make base salaries of $9 million in 2016 and anotherย $7 million in 2017.
Lynch will finish his NFL career with 9,112 yards rushing on 2,144 carries (4.3 YPC) to go along with 252 receptions for 1,979 yards receiving and 83 total touchdowns for the Seahawks and Bills.
Lynch was a five-time Pro Bowler and made one first-team All Pro team in 2012. He also helped the Seahawks win a Super Bowl in 2013.
