Seahawks QB Geno Smith Will Miss Week To 10 Days After Surgery To Remove Cyst From Knee

Adam Schefter reports that Seahawks backup QB Geno Smith is scheduled to have a cyst removed from his knee on Friday and is expected to miss a week to 10 days.

Smith is competing for the backup job with Paxton Lynch, who had a great showing in Thursday’s preseason game, so this won’t help his chances of making the team.

Smith, 28, is a former second-round pick of the Jets back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $5.019 million contract before signing a one-year contract worth $2 million with the Giants in 2017.

Smith later signed a one-year deal with the Chargers for the 2018 season before joining the Seahawks this past May.

In 2018, Smith appeared in four games for the Chargers and completed 1 of 4 pass attempts for eight yards while also losing a fumble.
