Steelers Activate OLB Jarvis Jones, Place CB Cortez Allen On I.R.

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Saturday that they have activated OLB Jarvis Jones from the short-term injured reserve list and placed CB Cortez Allen on the I.R. list.

Pittsburgh had until December 15 to remove Jones from injured reserve, but he was able to return to practice a few weeks ago, so it’s not all that surprising to him back before the later deadline.

Jones suffered a wrist injury close to two months ago and later underwent surgery, so it was clear that his was a pretty severe injury.

Jones, 25, was taken in the first-round of last year’s NFL draft and showed some signs of improvement before getting hurt. He still has another two years remaining on his four-year, $8,705,502 rookie contract beyond this season, so there is plenty of time for him prove his worth before the Steelers have to decide on his fifth-year option in 2016.

So far this season, Jones has recorded 14 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble over the course of three games.

Allen, 26, suffered a broken thumb a few weeks ago and was forced to undergo surgery a few days later.

The Steelers signed him to a brand new five-years, $25 million contract right before the start of the regular season. However, he put together a pretty disappointing 2014 season.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 115 cornerback out of 117 qualifying players this year.

Allen’s season ends with him recording 41 tackles, two interceptions, a fumble recovery and 11 pass defenses over the course of 11 games.
