Steelers Place ILB Robert Spillane On IR, Promote Two Players

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced that they placed ILB Robert Spillane on injured reserve and promoted LB Ulysees Gilbert III and LB Tegray Scales from the practice squad to their active roster.

Spillane, 24, originally signed on with the Titans as an undrafted free agent out of Western Michigan back in 2018. He was cut coming out of the preseason as a rookie and re-signed to the practice squad. Tennessee promoted him to the active roster after a month but was waived a few weeks later.

The Steelers signed him to a futures deal in February of last year and re-signed to their practice squad coming out of training camp. Pittsburgh promoted him to the active roster last month.

In 2020, Spillane has appeared in 12 games and recorded 45 total tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception, four pass defenses, one fumble recovery, and scored one defensive touchdown. Pro Football Focus has him graded as the No. 21 linebacker out of 87 players.
