Steelers Place Original-Round Tender On RFA TE Xavier Grimble

Mike Garafolo reports that the Steelers have placed an original-round tender on restricted free agent TE Xavier Grimble.

Grimble’s tender will be a low-round offer worth $2.025 million, while there will be no compensation to the Steelers should another team sign him.

Grimble, 26, originally signed on with the Giants as an undrafted free agent out of USC back in 2014. He lasted just a few months with the Giants before eventually signing on to the 49ers’ practice squad.

Grimble had a brief stint with the Patriots before returning to the 49ers on a future/reserve contract in 2015. The Steelers later added him to their taxi squad and re-signed him to an exclusive rights contract.

In 2018, Grimble appeared in all 16 games for the Steelers and recorded six receptions for 86 yards (14.3 YPC), lost one fumble, and scored no touchdowns.
