Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones said that teams around the league have been calling them about possible trades for offensive and defensive linemen.
โWe do get calls on both offensive and defensive lines,โ Jones said, via Pro Football Talk. โWeโve made that a priority over the years, and itโs a strength of ours, and some teams are interested in it.
โYeah, I think thereโs a possibility for sure that we could move somebody.โ
Jones explained that they will likely be looking for draft compensation in return if they decide to trade a player.
โI will say this: This is about as good as weโve felt about our roster in a long, long time, but you never say never on being able to find something that can improve you,โ Jones said. โCertainly, weโll be looking for that. One of the problems weโve got right now is spots are tight. Weโre uncomfortable obviously with some people we may have to expose out there, and thatโs part of it. As I said, hatโs off to Will [McClay] and his staff and Jason [Garrett] and his staff. Weโve done a good job I think of putting together a really solid football team right here. But weโll look for ways to get better, and certainly if we can pick up some picks here at the midnight hour that make sense for us, weโll do that too.โ
Dallas has some notable players who could be in line to be backup offensive linemen this year including Cameron Fleming, Xavier Su’a-Filo, and Joe Looney. However, teams like to preserve their offensive line depth the best they can, given that there are rarely quality free agents available at these positions during the season.
Weโll have more regarding potential trades involving the Cowboys as the news is available.
