Free agent RB Chris Johnson mentioned during an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio that he still wants to play next year and has spoken to a few teams including the Cardinals about potential opportunities.
“I want to play,” Johnson said. “A few teams are interested and we’ve stayed in close contact with the Cardinals.”
Johnson added that reaching 10,000 career rushing yards is “definitely a motivating factor” for him, per Sirius XM.
There hasn’t been any reported interest in Johnson since the free agency market opened several months ago.
Johnson, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Titans back in 2008. After six years in Tennessee, Johnson signed on with the Jets for the 2014 season but spent just one year in New York before joining the Cardinals the following season.
Arizona elected to bring Johnson back on a one-year, $1.5 million contract last March and he’s currently testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent.
In 2016, Johnson rushed for 95 yards on 25 carries (3.8 YPC) and scored one touchdown over the course of four games.
We’ll have more regarding Johnson as the news is available.
