Report: Chargers & Dolphins Both “In The Mix” For Free Agent DT Earl Mitchell

Michael Gehlken of the Union-Tribune San Diego confirms that the Chargers are “very much in the mix” for free agent DT Earl Mitchell.

  • Gehlken adds that the Dolphins are likely to be his top suitor.

The Bears and Chargers have also been mentioned as a teams who could pursue Mitchell in the coming days.

Mitchell, 26, has only missed one game in his NFL career and totaled 48 tackles and 1.5 sacks for the Texans in 2013.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 51 defensive tackle in the league out of 69 qualifying players. It’s worth noting that Mitchell is a capable interior pass-rusher, which is actually hard to find on the open market.

  • Beasley adds that Mitchell is getting “a lot of attention” for his versatility and athletic ability.

According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, Texans’ impending free agent DT Earl Mitchell could be an option for the Bears in free agency.

  • Biggs adds that re-signing Henry Melton could still be an option for the Bears as well.

Former Buccaneers GM Mark Dominik mentioned as Mitchell as a free agent who could end up being a “good value” this offseason.
