Texans Promote Four Players, Waive OLB Nate Orchard

According to Aaron Wilson, the Texans are promoting WR Steven Mitchell Jr, CB Anthony Chesley, S Jonathan Owens and WR Chad Hansen from their practice squad to the active roster.

Houston also waived OLB Nate Orchard

Owens, 25, originally signed on with the Cardinals as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri Western State back in 2018 but was waived with an injury designation after a couple of months and reverted to the injured reserve.

He caught on with the Texans’ practice squad in September of last year. He returned on a futures contract last offseason and has bounced on and off Houston’s active roster this season.

In 2020, Owens has appeared in two games but did not record any statistics.

Orchard, 27, is a former second-round pick of the Browns back in 2015. He was in the final year of his rookie contract when Cleveland cut him loose coming out of the preseason in 2018.

He had brief stints with the Bills, Chiefs, Seahawks, and Dolphins before getting released by Miami coming out of last year’s preseason. He signed a one-year deal with Washington back in November and finished out 2019 with Washington.

Orchard re-signed to a one-year deal this offseason, but was waived last month and later claimed by the Texans.

In 2020, Orchard has appeared in three games and recorded two tackles and no sacks for Washington.
