Tania Ganguli of ESPN.com reports that the Texans have released veteran S Stevie Brown.

While this is unfortunate news for Brown, there are a number of teams that could use some help at safety including his former team the Giants.

Brown, 28, signed a one-year, $825,000 contract that included a $40,000 signing bonus with the Texans back in April. He was set to make a base salary of $745,000 for the 2015 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Brown will free up $625,000 in cap space while creating $4,000 in dead money.

In 2014, Brown appeared in all 16 games for the Giants last season and recorded 38 tackles, one sack, and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 47 safety out of 87 qualifying players.
