Texans Worked Out 6 Players Including OLB Akeem Ayers

According to Howard Balzer, the Houston Texans brought in six free agents for tryouts on Tuesday including OLB Akeem Ayers.

The full list tryouts for the Texans includes:

1. LB Akeem Ayers
2. LB Jelani Jenkins
3. DE Sterling Bailey
4. DE Patrick Gamble
5. DT Chunky Clements
6. DE Mike Purcell

Of this group, the Texans signed Jenkins to a contract and added Clements to their practice squad.

Ayers, 28, is a former second-round pick of the Titans back in 2011. He was later traded to the Patriots in return for a 2015 sixth-round pick.

The Rams signed him to a two-year, $6 million contract with $2.75 million guaranteed back in March of 2015. However, he was cut loose by the team in September of last year.

The Colts signed Ayers to a contract just a few days after he was released, but elected to move on from.

Since being waived by Indianapolis, he has worked out for the Lions, Seahawks, Bears, Saints, Patriots, and Giants.

In 2016, Ayers appeared in all 16 games for the Colts and recorded 21 total tackles, two sacks, one interception, and two pass defenses.
