Tua Tagovailoa Says He’s Still On Track To Make “Full Recovery” From Hip Injury

Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said during an interview with ESPN’s “Golic and Wingo” Thursday that he’s still on track to make a “full recovery” from the hip injury he suffered last year.

According to Tagovailoa, he had an MRI on his hip about two weeks ago and another scan is scheduled for Feb. 10, which marks three months in his recovery.

“Everything looks good,” Tagovailoa said, via Mike Rodak of Al.com. “The bone has healed pretty well. They usually give it a three-month mark. [February 10] will be when we go in for a CT scan with my doctors in Birmingham and I think an MRI, as well. That’s usually the mark they give the bone to heal. Right now we’re on pace for a full recovery.

Tagovailoa confirmed that he will attend the NFL combine in Indianapolis next month to meet with teams and go through the medical evaluation part. However, he didn’t commit to holding a Pro Day later on.

My thing is I want to go to the combine and solely focus on my medical. I just want to win my medical,” Tagovailoa said. “Other people are going there to win their 40 [yard dash], win the bench press.

“Once we’re good, cleared to go with the CT scans and the MRIs, we’ll then have to take on the other challenge of am I going to hold a pro day and things like that.”

Tagovailoa, 21, is still expected to be a high first-round pick in this year’s draft, despite the serious hip injury. In fact, many experts believe he’ll still be a top-five pick as long as things check out with his hip.

For his career, Tagovailoa has completed 69.3 percent of his passes for 7,442 yards, 87 touchdowns and 11 interceptions over the course of three seasons and 32 games. He has also rushed for 340 yards and nine touchdowns.
