According to Josh Katzenstein, it’s “very unlikely” DE Alex Okafor returns to the New Orleans Saints in 2019.
With the presence of first-round pick DE Marcus Davenport, the Saints are looking to free up more snaps for their young defensive end.
Free agent DE Ezekiel Ansah also reportedly has a visit scheduled with the Saints.
Okafor previously triggered a clause in his contract that allows him to opt out of returning to the Saints if he recorded more than three sacks in 2018.
Okafor, 28, is a former fourth-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2013. He played out the final year of his rookie contract when he signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Saints in 2017.
Unfortunately, Okafor suffered a season-ending Achilles tear before eventually agreeing to a two-year deal worth up $10 million with the Saints.
In 2018, Okafor appeared in all 16 games for the Saints and recorded 36 tackles, four sacks, a fumble recovery and a pass defense.
