According to Tom Pelissero of ESPN 1500 Twin Cities, the Vikings could place RB Toby Gerhart could trading block “once injuries start hitting in camp.”
Pelissero adds that this may come down to whether or not the Vikings are willing to give him an increased role at some point in the future.
Gerhart, 26, is entering the final year of his rookie contract, so Minnesota could always allow him to depart next offseason and wait for compensatory pick in 2015. Still, it’s doubtful that they would receive any more than a fifth-round pick comp pick if he were to sign elsewhere.
Adrian Peterson is coming off of an incredible season and has shown no signs of slowing down, despite the fact that he’s currently 28-years-old. The Vikings may want to reduce his load some in the next few years to prolong his career as much as possible, but Peterson appears to be more than capable of shouldering the load, even after a serious knee injury.
