Vikings Expected To Release DE Everson Griffen If He Doesn’t Restructure His Contract

According to Chris Tomasson, the Vikings are expected to release veteran DE Everson Griffen if he doesn’t agree to a restructured contract.

This comes shortly after the news that Anthony Barr has backed out of his deal with the Jets and is expected to get a contract worth around $13 million per year from the Vikings.

Minnesota will need the additional cap room and Griffen has come up as a potential cap casualty this offseason.

Griffen, 30, is a former fourth-round pick of the Vikings back in 2010. Griffen is in the third year of his six-year, $75 million contract that includes $34 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $12,900,000 for the 2019 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing will free up $10,543,750 of available cap space while creating $1.2 million in dead money.

In 2018, Griffen appeared in 11 games for the Vikings and recorded 33 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and a pass defense.
